Time to transition into the cooler months. Not sure what to wear? During the Autumn and Fall, the weather can be tricky. It still looks like summer and sometimes it can feel that way for about 3 hours out of the day. Here are a few Fall tips to keep yourself feeling good no matter the fluctuating temps and your home looking good throughout the new season.

Tip #1: Layer Up!

It is okay to reach in the back of your closet and pull out those baggy cardigan dusters. It is also a good idea to reach for that storage box and hang up your favorite scarves so that they are easily accessible. You’re going to need them. If you are still styling a summer fit that’s fine. Just carry a light sweater, or a shawl, or scarf with you. Pro tip: Use your scarf as a fashion accessory by tying it around your waist as a belt or looping it around the handle of your hanbag for added color. By evening you just may find yourself reaching for it and will be right there for you.

Tip #2: Yes, you can still wear dresses!

Who says you cannot wear your summer dresses. You most definitely can get another month in. All you have to do is put the Fall touch on it by wearing closed toe booties, sneakers, or wedges. Add in that layer with a jacket, kimono, or duster and there yah go. They don’t call it transition for nothing. Ease your way into it. I kinda go kicking and screaming, but that’s me and how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE Summer.

Tip #3: Add some fall color to your wardrobe and to your home decor.

The most fun I get out of the Fall season is color coordinating my wardrobe and decorating my doorstep with pumpkins. Orange is a go to color. I suggest a current dusty orange or even a pinkish orange to avoid looking just like a pumpkin. I mean, unless that’s what you’re going for.

Tip #4 Get your pumpkins from a black-owned farm. Here’s a few for you.

Hawkins Homestead Farm (Kinsey, AL) Soilful City (Washington, DC)

Patagonia Flower Farms (Patagonia, AZ) Four Mother’s Farm (Princess Anne, MD)

Rancho de Rodney (Fresno, CA) Go Greens Farms (Suffolk, VA)

Patchwork City Farms (Atlanta, GA) Rise & Root Farm (Chester, NY)

Tip #5: Not a pumpkin fan. Girl, you know I get it. Here are some sweet potato links for you to dive into.
