Over the Heel!
Technically, I have at least 10 years before I am over the hill (HA HA, get?!). Not that anyone is counting. However, in this case my feet say differently.
I was once a high-heel skipping fool. I could jump rope, run, and live my ‘Dancehall Queen’ dream in stilettos. Somewhere in the midst of having my third child, my shoe game went null and void and the dream of becoming a ‘Dancehall Queen’ came to a halt.
My feet grew a ½ inch with each of my three pregnancies. This certainly was not in the plan. So within one decade, I went from my petite shoe size 7 to the now 8 ½. I was fine with the transition until pregnancy number three. I remember after Corinne was born, I yearned to wear these fabulous heels a friend gifted me. They were stunning, but I simply could not stunt in them. I put them on but never made it past the driveway. (In case you didn't know, foot spreading is normal during pregnancy. I am not a monster!)
What’s not normal is my bunions screaming whenever I wear heels for more than an hour. I worked retail pretty much all of my years post high school. I stood on a cement sales floor in heels for more than eight hours! I was once required to keep a pair of heels at my desk to be worn in between runs back and forth to the sewing floor.
I’m certain history and the stretching of bones and ligaments during pregnancy inspired my new passion, “kitten heels”! You know, those sweet princess-looking pumps no higher than three inches with that cute curve in the heel? Oh, they're out there.
You can find a kitten heel in just about anyone's shoe line from Chinese Laundry to Dolce & Gabbana. Follow me as I sift through the millions of endless fierce stilettos to find the baddest of the bad kitten heels.
$$ Tory Burch seems to get it. Prices are moderately priced for those looking for a shoe that will last for more than a season. You won’t find super trendy colorways and funky designs, but Tony Burch is pretty good at keeping their line up to date and ready for any occasion.
$ Vince Camuto has a variety of current styles that are budget savvy. You’ll also find suitable office favorites if you need to play it safe. You can find a few styles easily on Amazon’s website.
$$ Sam Edelman shoes are some great go-to’s that deliver classic style or something with a little flavor without being over the top with cost. You can find a variety of styles, colors and good deals easily on Amazon’s website.
$$$ Balenciaga shoes are some of the most funky and stylish gems out there. I love the use of sharp lines and designs that reach outside the boundaries of what kitten heels have been stereotyped as. The Balenciaga team goes high in design and also cost. Be prepared to get a great quality shoe that may trend out within a year.
$ Asos website hands down right now has my favorite selection for kitten heels. The prices are pocketbook friendly. I can choose from several very stylish designs that are funky, colorful, playful, or practical. With this deal, I can dance again in heels.
